Profile of the foreign tourists, visiting Bulgaria
The average tourist in Bulgaria is 37 years old and this is not their first visit. They like Bulgarian traditional cuisines and beverages, as well as the Bulgarian hospitality. As they highly appreciate the Bulgarian nature and the sandy beached along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, they prefer the stationary vacations at the sea resorts and the nightlife more than the cultural and historical routes.
This is a cross-section profile of the average tourist, who visit Bulgaria, provided by the NOEMA Marketing Studies Agency.
The representative research was commissioned by the State Tourism Agency and was taken at the height of the 2007 summer season, among 3000 foreign guests of our country. The number of Russian, German, Scandinavian, Eastern and Western European tourists, who took part in the research was prevalent.
81% of the respondents said they remain pleased with their vacation in Bulgaria. About 17% admitted Bulgaria’s tourist product was not well known abroad. Recommendations by friends and relatives had been decisive in taking the decision to choose Bulgaria at a tourist destination.
Almost 32% of tourists come to Bulgaria with their families. The average age of visitors is going down each following year, currently being 37 years. It is mainly young people from Eastern Europe, Russia, Germany and Britain who come to Bulgaria for their vacations.
It is interesting that this is the 4th visit in Bulgaria for one of each four questioned in the research vacationers.
The average vacation duration of the foreigner tourists in Bulgaria is 9 nights and their expenses during that period of time are roughly 340 euro per person. Lounging on the beach and spending the night at night clubs seem to form the core of entertainment for 68% of foreign guests during the past summer. Some 33% indulge their selves in shopping, cultural and rural tourism.
The Russian tourists are the most culturally-minded. They spend the most time and expenses for extra trips and entertainment.
As a whole the foreigners prefer the comforts of 3 and 4 star hotels. However, 3,1%, most of them from UK, stay at apartment houses at the Black Sea coast, bought by them.
Although the foreign tourists are worried about the over-construction and the building works, running during the tourist season in Bulgaria, about 92% of them are willing to recommend our country to their acquaintances and relatives.
